Jazz Fundraisers

Please support the Jazz Band at the following events:

May 6th Jazz Fundraiser at Dickie’s Barbeque Pit.  Join the Jazz Ensemble for a night of music and BBQ from 5:00-9:00pm.  Turn in your receipt at the end of the night and the Ensemble will receive a portion of the proceeds.  Students will also be selling tickets to the 2nd Annual Jazz Dinner and Dance Extravaganza!

May 18th at the Berry Creek Country Club – Join the Jazz Ensemble for an Italian Dinner and live performances from Jazz students from 7:00pm to about 10:00pm.  This formal event will be a night of dance music and fun!

 

 

 

Red Poppy Parade & Festival(April 25-28)

This week we will be participating in the Red Poopy Parade & Festival. In preparation we’ll have parade practice this Thursday. The parade will be Saturday Morning. Also the Jazz Ensemble will be performing at the Festival on Sunday.

Thursday (4/25):Parade Practice

  • 4:15-5:45 – After school marching rehearsal
  • Please come to rehearsal prepared with your marching instrument, a WHITE t shirt and athletic shorts & shoes.
  • Friday (4/26):
  • ***Take your marching uniforms home after school***

 

Saturday (4/27):Red Poppy Parade

  • 8:30 - Meet at BH1 ***Come dressed in uniform***
  • 9:00 — Load Busses
  • 9:10 — Arrive at Parade route on 2nd St
  • 9:15  - Warm Up
  • 9:45 — Step Off
  • 10:30 — Parade ends
  • 10:40 — Load Busses
  • 10:50 — Arrive at GHS

 

Sunday (4/28): Red Poppy Music Festival

Week 10(March 18-23) Pre-UIL Concert/Band Benefit Bash/Texas Music Festival

Hopefully everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we are having this weekend and the last day of Spring Break! We had an amazing trip to New York City with lots of great sights and experiences. We also had a great performance at Riverside Church! I’m so proud of everyone who went on the trip for the way that you all represented the GHS Eagle Band!!

We are now moving into the last few weeks before UIL Concert & Sight Reading Contest. I have just a few announcements for the week:

Wind Symphony: our after school rehearsal will be on Monday in BH1 at 4-5:30.

Wind Ensemble will have after school rehearsal on Thursday

in BH1 at 4-5:15.

Pre UIL Concert will be Thursday Night. Symphonic Band will         warm up on stage at 6:15. Wind Ensemble will warm up in Yellow at 6:40. Wind Symphony will warm up in yellow at 7:10. Please be at your warm up on time dressed in concert attire and ready to go with music and instrument. Let’s have a great concert!

Texas Music Festival will be on Saturday. Symphonic Band will perform at 9AM. You will need to be at the BH1 at 8AM dressed in concert attire and ready to go with music and instrument.

*We will need a few student volunteers to help run the contest.

Band Benefit Bash will also be on Saturday starting at 8AM. We will have a Garage Sale and Section Basket silent auction. We will be hosting the event at the Annex Gyms.

We will have all regularly scheduled sectionals this week! There are only a few sectionals left before contest. Make sure that you are attending your sectionals!

There are lots of things going on this week. Please refer to your update for info and times. Let’s have another great week!

Week 8(February 25-March 3) Symphony Orchestra Pre-UIL Concert/Percussion Concert/NY Trip Rehearsal/WGI Houston Regional

Wind Symphony: our after school rehearsal will be on Monday in BH1 at 4-5:30.

-       Symphony Orchestra:  Pre-UIL concert is on Tuesday Feb. 26.  Bring  your uniform to school. Rehearse 4:00 — 5:15. Orchestra provides pizza — eat at 5:15. Change into uniform, be onstage at 6 pm to check sound balance. Perform on stage at 6:30 pm. We will practice sight-reading immediately after. We should be done by 7:30.

-       Wind Ensemble will have after school rehearsal on Thursday in BH1 at 4-5:30.

-       Winter Guard will travel Houston on Saturday, March 2nd for the WGI Regional Competition. Best of Luck to the Guard!!

-       On Sunday March 3 We will have a Rehearsal for the NY trip on Monday from 2-4 in BH1. This is a MANDATORY rehearsal, so if you are going on the trip please make plans to be there. This will be our last rehearsal for this performance so it is very important that we have perfect attendance!!

-       We will also have a Parent Meeting at 4pm immediately after the NY Trip Rehearsal to hand out forms and trip shirts. Please bring $5 for your shirt. 

If you were not able to make it to Solo & Ensemble, please be prepared to play your solo this week for a test grade.
