Wind Ensemble & Wind Symphony:

Highlights for the week include:

Friday-All Jazz Students

All jazz students will meet at the NGC band hall immediately after school – no later than 4:15.  We will have already have placed equipment at EVHS from our Wednesday Jazz Ensemble rehearsal.  Students are responsible for getting themselves to the EVHS Band Hall after school.  PARENTS – IF YOUR CHILD NEEDS TO CARPOOL, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND WE CAN SET SOMETHING UP.  Please remember to bring a sack dinner on this day.  Students will be allowed to eat when they are “off duty” between five pm and seven pm.  All jazz students will need to wear their Georgetown Jazz Shirt during the day Friday as you are helping to run the festival.  Students will have assigned positions to help as contest hosts all day.  Awards will be at 8:30pm followed by TC Fusion.  All students need to stay to the end of the festival.

 

Saturday-All Jazz Students

All jazz students will meet at the EVHS band hall at 2:45.  Students are responsible for getting themselves to the EVHS Band Hall and for having a sack dinner for later.  Students are able to eat while not “on duty” between five and seven pm.

 

All Jazz Ensemble students will need to wear their Georgetown Jazz Shirt during the day Saturday as you are helping to run the festival.  Jazz Ensemble will also need to bring their Dress black clothes for the evening concert, instrument and music.  Once Vista Ridge has completed the stage performance we will meet on stage for a warm-up prior to our performance. Our concert will start around 8:30pm followed by the awards ceremony, and Temple Jazz Orchestra.  All students will need to stay to the end of the festival.

Jazz Band students will need to arrive in dress black clothes, with their instrument, music, and their jazz festival shirt and change of clothes as at 2:45.  Once you have completed your clinic, you will change and help host the festival.  After the last person has completed their task you can meet with Ms. Frost for further instruction.  The Jazz Ensemble performs at 8:30, followed by the awards ceremony, and Temple Jazz Orchestra concert.  All jazz students need to stay to the end of the festival.


Red Poppy – Sunday

Both the GHS Jazz Ensemble and the NGC Jazz Ensemble will performing from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.   Both bands will need to meet at the Main Red Poppy Stage in front of the court house on Austin and 8th at 2:00pm to unload equipment.  Jazz Band will start playing at 3:00 - 3:30.  We will switch bands and change equipment then close with the Jazz Ensemble from 3:30 – 4:00.  All students will need to wear their Georgetown Jazz shirt and khaki shorts.  Footwear can be tennis shoes or sandals and sunglasses are optional.  All jazzers will watch and support the other groups in the audience.  All students will need to stay after to help put equipment away and travel back to GHS Band Hall together to put instruments/equipment away.  Parents please help with any transportation needed.

 

Friday, December 10 – All Region Band auditions for:

  • Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, Horn, Tenor Trombone & Percussion
  • Vista Ridge HS, Leander ISD
  • 200 South Vista Ridge Blvd., Cedar Park, TX, 78613.
  • A map to the school can be found on their website at http://vrhs.leanderisd.org/.
  • 5:30pm student check-in
  • Bus Transportation provided.  (leaves GHS at 4:30pm)
  • Georgetown students are asked to ride the bus to the audition.  Most parents then have their child call/text them once their audition is done.  By the time the parent arrives at Vista Ridge, the results will be posted.  This gets the kids home earlier.  Your second option is the students riding the bus home to GHS, but the bus typically arrives to GHS at 11:00pm.

Saturday, December 11 – All Region Band auditions for:

  • Flute, Bassoon, Bb Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, French Horn, Tenor Trombone, Euphonium and Percussion.
  • 1:30pm student check-in
  • Bus Transportation provided.  (leaves GHS at 12:30pm)
  • To avoid students waiting for hours in the cafeteria, we are asking the following instruments to arrive at Vista Ridge High School at 3:30pm for a 4:00pm check-in in the cafeteria:
  • Oboe, Tenor Saxophone,  Baritone Saxophone, Trumpet, Bass Trombone, Tuba and Bass Clarinet.
  • 4:00pm student check-in
  • Bus Transportation provided.  (leaves GHS at 3:00pm)
  • Georgetown students are asked to ride the bus to the audition.  Most parents then have their child call/text them once their audition is done.  By the time the parent arrives at Vista Ridge, the results will be posted.  This gets the kids home earlier.  Your second option is the students riding the bus home to GHS, but the bus typically arrives to GHS on Saturday at 7:00pm.

Student Guidelines:

  • To support anonymity, students should not wear any shirt or jacket that identifies their school. Letter jackets must be left in the cafeteria.
  • No electronics are permitted in the audition room (this includes cell phones and gaming devices). Students will be asked (and expected) to surrender their cell phone when they enter the audition room.

Saturday 12/4

Holiday on Parade at Sun City & Georgetown Square Christmas Stroll

  • 10:00am to 5:45pm
  • We will march in the noon parade on the Georgetown Square and then be bussed out to Sun City to perform short performances in select neighborhoods spreading the holiday spirit!
  • Students need to bring:
    • Sack Lunch with a drink (we will provide water at Sun City)
    • Black Marching Shoes & Black Socks
    • Black Triangle T
    • Blue Band Shorts OR warm long-john type clothing for underneath the uniform if it is COLD.  (we march in full uniform)
    • Holiday-themed headwear.  Santa hats, reindeer antlers, lights on your head, etc.  Ladies, do your best to keep your hair up and off the collar.
    • You are encouraged to decorate your horn as long as it plays properly.  We recommend using blue painter’s tape on your instrument to affix decorations.
  • GUARD: Be dressed in track suit, black guard shirt, tennis shoes, Santa hat, hair 1/2 up/down.  Don’t forget your red flag and candy cane!
  • We will be bused to the square, march in the Stroll Parade at noon, and then go caroling through Sun City and will be dismissed from GHS
