First of all congratulations to all of you on a great marching band season! What a great end to the season with the seniors being recognized for all of their commitment and hard work. In addition, I was very proud of the Forbes and Benold band students for their great performances at their concerts last week and at the game on Friday. Great job bands!!
Moving forward we have one final performance for the marching band season. That’s right, this Saturday is Texas State Band Day! I’m looking forward to joining the Bobcat Band for their game vs. Prairie View A&M University this Saturday. What an honor for the Eagle Band. Also we will have the Masquerade Party this Friday night!

What a great honor to be chosen as the feature school for Fox 7 Home Team Friday. Hopefully everyone has gotten a chance to see all of the footage of the band. If you’ve not seen it yet go to myfoxaustin.com and type georgetown high school in the search bar and the video clips should come right up or they are linked on this site. I am so proud of the students for their great performances and interviews. Great job band!
This week will be another big week. On Saturday we will perform in the Region 26 UIL Marching Contest!
We’ve had a great season thus far and I’m looking forward to a great performance at UIL Contest.

What a great summer band camp! I am so pleased with everyone’s progress and I know this is going to be a great year. I can’t believe that tomorrow is the first day of school. I’m really looking forward to the school year and the marching season. Here is some info for the upcoming week.
MONDAY 8/22

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!
  • A DAY
  • 8:45 1st period Marching Band(Make sure you bring a copy of your schedule)
  • 4:15 After school rehearsal(Bring all of your supplies for outside EX. shorts, running shoes, water jug…)
  • 6:30 End Rehearsal
 

Week 2 was another outstanding week for the Eagle Band! We have completed the learning process for the full band show and have started the learning process for the competitive show. The students hard work is really starting to show and the staff and I are all so proud of their efforts. I had a great time at the band picnic and I am so glad that I stayed DRY;-)

Congrats to the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps on their DCI World Championship. Also, congrats to our very own Eagle band members Gordon Janda(Bluecoats) and Alex Lenoux(Genesis) on an excellent drum corps season. Great job guys!! We are all looking forward to your return to the Eagle Band.

Week 3 is another busy week for everyone so I will try to give as much information on the weeks events as possible.

MONDAY 8/15: CONVOCATION 7-9. The Wind Symphony students need to report to the band hall at 7am. The dress is concert black. They need to have their concert instrument and their music for “The Pledge of Allegiance” The rehearsal will be from 7-7:50. The performance will be from 8-8:30. The students will be released at around 8:45. This will be the first performance of the 2011-12 GHS Wind Symphony so make sure you are on time and prepared so we can have the best performance possible.

April 12, 13, 14, 2011- Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday UIL Contest Performance

  • 8:30am – GHS PAC
  • Each GHS Band performs on a different day!
  • Tuesday 4/12- Symphonic Band
  • Wednesday 4/13- Wind Ensemble
  • Thursday 4/14- Wind Symphony
  • ** PARENTS, please come if you can… we feed off your support!
  • We’ll begin at 8:30am in the GHS PAC.  Follow us from our concert stage performance to the sight-reading room!  We will have results by 10:00am.  Hope to see as many of you there as possible!

April 16, 2011 – RED POPPY PARADE

  • All Band, Colorguard and Georgettes are marching in the parade
  • http://poppy.georgetown.org/
  • 9:00am – meet at 4th and Church (new location)
    • (arrive from the EAST. come through the park or from Southwestern Univ. do not try to approach 4th and Church from the Square side. it will all be blocked off)
  • 10:00am – parade
  • 10:30am – dismissal from 4th and Church
  • (the parade route is a circle, we will arrive back where we start from)
  • Attire:
    • Band- blue polo
    • khaki shorts
    • tennis shoes
    • … with RED ACCENTS!  We are encouraging all students to wear red hats, visors, ribbons, headbands.  Decorating your horn with Red Ribbon is highly encouraged as long as it does not inhibit the proper operation of the horn itself.  If borrowing a school horn for the parade, please remove the ribbons and accents before returning it.

  • Music:
    • We will be performing:  Fight Song / Cadence
  • Drumline & Sousaphones:
  • 8:20am — GHS RH1 – Meet Mr. Leach to load instruments
  • Student dropoff / parking:
  • Please dropoff or park OUTSIDE the barricades.  Please do not move barricades even for loading and unloading of instruments.  We must walk them to the corner of 4th and Church.  ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO GET TO 4th and Church.

May 6th & 7th- Friday and Saturday- Senior Trip

  • We are purchasing tickets this week and some students still have outstanding balances. Please pay off the trip this week!

May 12th Thursday- Spring Concert – 6:30pm

  • All 3 bands and both jazz bands will perform at our final concert of the year!

May 14th  Saturday- Band Banquet & Dance – 5:00pm & 7:00pm

  • Catered Steak dinner, Awards Ceremony, Senior Recognition and Dance!  A NOT TO MISS EVENT for all band students and parents!  More info coming soon!
  • 5:00pm Senior Wills at the Eastview Band Hall.
  • 7:00pm dinner in the Eastview Cafeteria.
  • 10:00pm dance until midnight!

June 4th “Brahms in the Park” – SATURDAY

  • The GHS Wind Symphony & the GHS Full Orchestra has been asked to open the 8:00pm concert and fireworks for the Annual “Georgetown Festival of the Arts” here in San Gabriel Park.  We will be performing the Full Orchestra piece from UIL, Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture” as well as his “Hungarian Dance #5″ alone as just the Wind Symphony.  All Wind Symphony students are needed for this performance as this will be the largest audience we perform for ALL YEAR!  Graduated Seniors included, we need you as part of this fantastic group!  Immediately following our performance will be the Temple Symphony’s performance of the Brahms “Serenade”.  Fireworks will conclude the evening over the San Gabriel River.  Students will be fed, courtesy of Georgetown Symphony Society.
