Band Booster Meeting

Our next Band Booster meeting will be Monday, October 1 at 7:30 pm in the Band Hall. Please join us for the latest information and competition news from the Band Directors. Also at the meeting will be Bill Pennell and Joe Dan Lee to speak briefly on the tax ratification election.  Chris Lambert will give a short presentation on our upcoming mattress sale fundraiser.

Pizza Dinner

We know that it is hard to stay for a meeting when your band student is ready for dinner, so we will have pizza, drinks and chips available for sale before the booster meeting. The pizza will be $1. per slice and you can get chips and a drink for an additional $1. This will allow your family to eat dinner and give you an opportunity to stay informed on band events and information. The food will be available to band students, parents and siblings…we just ask that you let us know if you are interested in purchasing some pizza, so that we can order enough.  Just reply to Jean Russell at jrussell360@gmail.com with your preference for cheese or pepperoni and the approximate number of slices.

Party Planning

We are beginning to form committees to start planning for our “End of Marching Season” Masquerade Party in November and also for our Band Banquet that will take place in May. If you are interested in helping with either of these events, we will have an initial meeting at 6:30 pm in the band hall on Monday night, October 1 (before the band booster meeting).

Upcoming Volunteer Needs

Every time you volunteer, it helps to keep your band student’s fees down. Imagine what the cost of band would be for each family if we did not receive the $10,000 plus disbursement from GPAA for helping with the concession stand. There would be many students that could not afford to participate. Please help us to continue to receive this disbursement by volunteering in the concession stand…we have many slots still available on Thursday October 18th. Follow the volunteer link from the band website to sign up.

On Saturday and Sunday, October 6th and 7th, GHS Band Boosters will be hosting a mattress sale fundraiser in the band hall. We are not required to do the selling, just help to publicize the event prior to the sale and have a band representative present in the band hall during the sale. There are two hour time shifts available beginning at 9:30 am each day.

On October 19th, after the Homecoming Game, we will host an alumni reception in the band hall. We need a few volunteers to set up and tend the refreshment table, and volunteers to provide some desserts.  All volunteer opportunities are listed on VolunteerSpot.com under Eagle Band Volunteer 2012-2013.

Extra Shirts

We do have a few extra Booster Polo shirts and purple Show Shirts available for sale. Please contact me to see if we have your size.

If you have questions or need more information, please contact me. Don’t forget to let me know if you want pizza at the meeting next week.   Please sign up to volunteer and support the Eagle Band!

Thank you,

Jean Russell

Band Booster News

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that has already volunteered! Whether it was helping with uniforms, providing lunch for the band directors, helping with Money Night, and/or passing out Popsicles to the kids on Fridays; you are much appreciated!
Parent Night -  Monday, August 20th is Parent Night at the band rehearsal. Come around 7 pm to see and hear your child perform. You won’t want to miss it! The parent night rehearsal will be followed by an ice cream social for all. If you would like to help with the ice cream social or are able to donate some of the goodies, please sign up on Volunteer Spot. http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/912345630868226043
Volunteers – The more we do to help the band, the more the students and directors can focus on reaching their musical and performance goals. The Eagle band needs volunteers for many tasks…please check Volunteer Spot frequently for the latest volunteer openings! We need chaperones and parents to help move percussion equipment at every football game and competition. We also need help working the concession stand this Fall. No experience necessary: everyone is a parent like you, trying to support their children’s activities and school. Before you volunteer, please make sure you have completed the Georgetown ISD Volunteer Background Check. The form and instructions are available online at  http://www.georgetownisd.org/Page/149

Concession Stand Volunteers - The Band works with the other organizations in the Georgetown Performing Arts Alliance to provide volunteers for the Concession Stand. The band’s portion of the concession stand revenue makes up a large percentage of our budget. We need to fill our band spots. We have found that most people enjoy working with the other parents in their child’s instrument section. If you don’t know each other already, it is a great way to get to know one another! Our first concession duty night is Thursday, August 30th. Please try to work when you child’s section is assigned, but if that is not convenient for you, please feel free to work any or all band nights! All of these opportunities are listed on Volunteer Spot, our online volunteer sign-up sheet. http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/912345630868226043  The suggested section dates are:

If you would like one, please send a check for $28., (made out to GPAA Band) and let us know if you would like a mens or ladies shirt and the size. You may send your check to the directors or bring it to us on Parent Night.

Band Booster Meeting - Once school starts, the band rehearsals will be 4:15 to 7:45 on Mondays and 4:15 to 6:45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On game day Fridays, the band students remain at school all day until dismissed after the game. (It is not too late to sign up for the optional meal plan so that dinner is provided and your child doesn’t have to pack one.)  Our first Band Booster meeting will be Tuesday, September 4th after the band rehearsal at 6:45 pm. The Booster officers will be there early if you have any questions or are interested in serving on a committee. Plan to attend to learn about Booster activities and get the latest news and updates from the Band Directors.
