Monday, 8/17 – 5:00pm to 8:00pm – Full Band Marching Rehearsal outdoors – bring all necessary gear!

  • All other activities for Monday previously published are being covered by wind symphony and battery only.
  • Be aware that around 7:00pm the mosquitoes come out… so send a bottle of spray along with the large jug of ice water!

Tuesday, 8/18 – 5:00pm to 8:00pm – Full Band Marching Rehearsal outdoors – bring all necessary gear!

Tuesday, 8/18 – 7:30pmPARENT NIGHT!

  • Bring your lawn chairs and come join us out on the marching practice field to watch the last 30 minutes of our rehearsal!
  • We will perform the first two movements of our 2009 GHS Eagle Marching Band show for parents and family!
  • Bring out grandma and crazy Uncle Joe… it will be a great experience for the kids to perform for family and friends!
  • We will end the evening at 8:00pm with ICE CREAM provided to ALL attendees… students and family alike!
  • An appropriate time to arrive would be between 7:00pm and 7:15pm to give you time to set up your lawn chairs for a 7:30pm start time!
  • We hope to see EVERYONE there! Park and meet in back of GHS by the tennis courts.
  • Be sure to go to the FRONT sideline, we sound better from the front.
  • Please volunteer to bring items for the ice cream social.

Wednesday, 8/19 – 12:30pm to 5:00pm – (arrive fed) Full Band Marching Rehearsal outdoors – bring all necessary gear!

  • We will be taking band photos for the football program and for BAND BUTTONS in the early afternoon outside in the GISD Stadium.
  • We will be indoors from 3:15pm to 5:00pm rehearsing music.
  • BAND should WEAR:
    • Blue Band Shorts
    • Black Triangle T
    • Black Socks
    • Black Marching Shoes (these will be handed out to new students on 8/19)
    • If you are a new student, wear close fitting shorts and T shirt to avoid showing through the uniform
  • Guard should:
    • Please wear close fitting garments ( we will hand out uniforms to you)
    • Bring anything you need with you to do hair ( ie: brush, gel, etc)
    • Bring flip flops
  • BAND BUTTONS and BAND / SECTION PHOTOS – Click HERE for a downloadable form to purchase a band button or other merchandise! If you haven’t seen a band button, they are a closeup photo of your student in uniform with their band instrument for you to PROUDLY wear at all band contests / games, etc. Checks payable to ZEN OX PHOTOGRAPHY.

Thursday, 8/20 – 12:30pm to 5:00pm – (arrive fed) Full Band Marching Rehearsal outdoors – bring all necessary gear!

  • We will be begin rehearsal promptly at 12:30pm outside on the practice field, so be early!
  • We will be indoors from 3:15pm to 5:00pm rehearsing music.

Thursday, 8/20 – $50.00 Spring Trip Deposit due for May 6th through 8th South Padre Trip.

  • Checks payable to GPAA BAND. All 3 bands are performing. This is a not to miss opportunity!
  • We are working on trip options for AP Testers on May 6th and May 7th in Georgetown and in Kingsville, TX. More info soon!

Thursday, 8/20 – 6:30pm to 8:30pm – No band picnic. Instead… GHS and NGC Open House

  • Stop by and see us if you haven’t seen enough of us lately! We’ll be in the band hall!

Friday, 8/21 – No band camp! Rest up for the 1st day of school!

Monday, 8/24 – 1st day of School!

  • Bring all your necessary marching gear with you to school (large jug of iced water, flip folder, marching instrument, change of clothes for outdoor rehearsal, sunscreen, hat, etc)
  • Rehearsal begins promptly at 4:00pm on the marching field, move quickly after school!
  • Rehearsal goes from 4:00pm to 6:15pm. Parent pick-up in the west student lot in front of GHS at 6:30pm.

Wind Symphony Gigs

Wind Symphony, we have a few upcoming gigs.  Here is the info:
Monday, 8/17 – Performance for entire GISD Faculty and Staff - Conducted by JD Janda, GISD Fine Arts Director
  • 8:00am – in seat in PAC – warmed up
  • 9:30am – performance
  • 10:00am – dismissal – (must leave GHS campus as all teachers will be in inservice… make arrangements for a ride if needed)
  • Attire – Jeans, blue band polo, belt and school-appropriate footwear (no flip flops etc)
Monday, 8/17 – Pep rally performance for GHS Faculty and Staff (Wind Symphony only + ALL BATTERY)
  • 12:15pm - on stage already fed and warmed up (with marching instruments and flip folder)
  • 1:00pm – performance
  • 1:30pm – dismissal (must leave campus as all teachers will be in inservice… make arrangements for a ride if needed)
  • Attire – Jeans, blue band polo, belt and school-appropriate footwear (no flip flops etc)
Monday, 8/17 – Full Band outdoor rehearsal – 5pm to 8pm

GHS Band and Colorguard Itinerary for Monday 8/10 through Friday 8/14

Reminders:

  • Wind players… practice, practice!! Pass off your Movement One of the marching show to a director by the end of the day 8/10 (Monday).
  • Winds and Percussion – Be sure to have your hat each day!
  • Guard… starting Monday, be sure to adhere to the revised marching band dress code policy!
  • Guard… also be sure to bring $17.00 for your make-up on Monday. Cash only.
  • All - be sure to have a HUGE jug of iced water out at rehearsal without fail ! We break every 20 minutes for water and it is imperative that you take care of your body and stay hydrated!
  • All - be sure to continue hydrating over the weekend! Take care of your bodies over the weekend to ensure a successful Monday! (no soda, no junk food!)
  • Challenge Forms for competitive marching positions became available to brass and woodwinds Friday 8/7. Any challenge form properly submitted by 4:00pm 8/7 resulted in a challenge scheduled for Monday. All parties involved are aware and are “Up to the Challenge!”

Tuesday 8/11 – 8am to 5pm – Summer Band / Guard Camp practice Winds – Bring your concert horns!

Friday 8/14- POOL PARTY!!!

  • Williams Pool 7:30pm to 9:30pm $5.00 charge at the door. Bring exact change!
  • We will feed you burgers, yum!

    • Baritones – Cheese
    • Altos & Percussion – Chips
    • Trumpets – Plates and Napkins
